Four-year-old Amanda McCready goes missing in the suburbs of Boston. Her aunt asks two private detectives, Patrick Kenzie and Angela Gennaro, to start their own investigation through their unofficial connections, because the police's search is fruitless. At first, they are in no hurry to take on a hopeless case, but new circumstances force them to put not only their own professional reputations, but also their lives at stake.
