The action of the psychological drama takes place in pre-war Poland. Its main character is a young man, Viktor Ruben, who, due to inner devastation, is unable to help his sisters - the friends of his youth, who are suffocating in the provincial wilderness of the city of Vilko and morally dying before his eyes.
