On the verge of a clash of empires, in the dead end of occupation and the trap of the Second World War, children who were deprived of their parents found themselves. The underprivileged girls are taken in by the singing teacher Sofia. She protects them and her own daughter Yaroslava - a naive and gentle Yaroslava, who above all else sought to reconcile the world with the enchanting melody "Schedryka". The end of the Second World War did not bring the long-awaited liberation, but only replaced voluntary imprisonment with forced imprisonment: the little girls were forcibly removed from the shelter created by Sofia to an orphanage. Despite the cruel upbringing, oppression and iron curtains, the girls carried the words and music of "Schedryka" through the years - a song that connected their destinies decades later. This Ukrainian harmony, which with the naivety of a child and the steadfastness of a mother, leads to light in the complete darkness of German and Soviet enslavement.
