Bond's colleague, Agent 009, dies while delivering a fake Faberge egg to the British ambassador's residence in East Germany. It is suspected that the Soviet Union is selling the jewels at auctions to finance its projects in the West. To find out the truth, agent 007 goes to India, where he meets a femme fatale nicknamed Octopus.
