1850s, New York State. The birth of the Big Apple is still a long way off, instead of the megacities of the future - farms and modest village life led by settlers. Among them are Dyer and his wife Abigail, who carefully records the everyday in a diary, it is her way of resisting routine. The same young family - Finny and Tully - settle on a nearby farm. Friendship between girls of the same age arises at first glance and quickly develops into something deeper and more passionate than ordinary friendships. Something that makes men jealous, envious and angry.
