Joan arrives in New York - the city of her dreams, and gets her first job at a literary agency. Now her main responsibilities are to make coffee for the bitch-boss, answer calls, and also to review letters sent from all over the world by fans of the great J.D. Salinger, because it is his works that are represented by the agency where she works. The girl finds herself in the heart of the bohemian New York of the 90s, and tries with all her might to deal not only with her work, boyfriend and boss, but also to fulfill her dream - to become a writer. So she starts answering letters, discovering her own talent, and she is inspired by the writer's voice on the phone...
