Waiting for the Barbarians

A small town on the outskirts of a powerful and despotic Empire is agitated by a report of a possible attack by tribes from the neighboring deserts, whom the Imperials call barbarians. Colonel Joll, who has just arrived from the capital, is ready for anything to get the necessary performances out of a person. The colonel's brutality pushes the town judge, a naturally quiet and delicate person, to revolt against the Empire.
