The events of the TV series unfold chronologically from 2005 to 2014, for 9 years in the period already after the restoration of Ukraine's independence in 1991. The main plot lines of the TV series unfold around the age-old problem of confrontation between two generations of the same family — the generation of parents and children. The plot of the TV series is filled with various dramatic confrontations between all members of the family, the apogee of which comes in 2014 when the family is divided by the Revolution of Dignity. One son of the Kaidashes — Lavrin — showed Ukrainian-centric views during difficult times for Ukraine and supported Ukraine's independence, volunteering to go to war to defend Ukraine against Russian aggression. Another son of the Kaidashes - Karpo - during difficult times for Ukraine, showed Russian-centric views and became a supporter of Russia, accusing the "Maidanites" of the Revolution of Dignity and the occupation of Crimea and Donbas by Russia.
