Read more "Dovbush" ‒ one of the most expensive films in the history of Ukrainian cinema ‒ with a budget of 86.7 million hryvnias, was announced at the 10th competitive selection of State Cinema in 2017. The author of the idea, co-author of the script and director of the film is Oles Sanin, who in his time made real hits - "Guide" and "Mamaya". Filming of the film "Dovbush" by Oles Sanin started in August 2018 by the film company "Pronto Film". The shooting of the picture was preceded by a careful study by the authors of Polish and Ukrainian archival documents related to the "Dovbush era". A folklore expedition in the Carpathians lasted for several months: materials were collected to recreate the unique atmosphere of the 18th century. Filmed in the most picturesque places of the Carpathians - in Bukovka and on Synevir, on Montenegro and on Stiga, on Pysany kamen and in the crimson forest. In general, unique natural locations were chosen for the filming of the film, as well as real places of stay of the historical hero Oleksa Dovbush. All authentic weapons for "Dovbush" were created in the "Fantasia Forge" workshop. The role of Oleksa Dovbush will be played by Serhii Strelnikov. The actor starred in more than 50 films and series ("Passion for Chapai", "Volodymyrska, 15"). He is an actor of the Kyiv theater "Atelier 16". Strelnikov also played one of the roles in the mystical drama "13 Bus" directed by Oleksandr Bezruchka, which was shot last summer in Lviv. The role of Ivan Dovbush, Oleksa's brother, will be played by Honored Artist of Ukraine Oleksiy Hnatkovskyi, an actor and director from Ivano-Frankivsk. He is also the curator of the Porto Franco Art Festival. Dovbush's beloved Marichka will be played by Dasha Plakhtiy. The Kyiv actress successfully debuted in the lead role in Maryna Stepanska's film "Strimgolov". For this work, she received the national film award "Zolota Dzyga" as the best actress. In 2020, the Dovbush project directed by Oles Sanin was presented at EFM, one of the world's largest film markets, as part of the Berlin International Film Festival. Films have been made about Dovbush more than once. Ivan Kavaleridze began to film about him back in 1941, but the Second World War got in the way. There is the film "Olexa Dovbush" from 1959 and, finally, "Legend of the Carpathians" with Valery Kharchyshyn. But the director of the new film, Oles Sanin, promises to make a modern and relevant film that will be commercially successful and interesting to almost everyone.
