The paralyzed Khrystyna is doomed to spend her whole life in a wheelchair. Wanting to change her situation, she goes to Lourdes, a cult pilgrimage site in the Pyrenees. One morning she wakes up healthy: apparently, a miracle happened. The elder of the group of pilgrims, a handsome forty-year-old volunteer from the Order of Malta, begins to show interest in her. She clings with all her strength to this unexpected chance at happiness, while her recovery causes envy and admiration in those around her.
