1941, Zonguldak. In the difficult conditions of the Second World War, according to the "Law on Labor Obligation", all men between the ages of 15 and 65 in the villages of Zonguldak province were forced to work in mines. Twenty-year-old poets - Muzaffer Tayip Uslu and Ryushtyu Onur - fall into the maelstrom of these events. The biggest dream of these young people is to publish their poems in the magazine "Varlyk" and thus become famous. A literature teacher from the Çelikel Lyceum in Zonguldak named Behcet Nejatigil is the only person who understands them, becomes their friend and mentor. The young poets meet Suzan, the daughter of one of the city's leading leaders, Zikri Bey, fall in love with her and bet on each other. Each of them has to write a poem and read it to the girl, the one whose poem Susan likes wins, and the other has to give way.
