This is a real story about the will to live. Everyone calls Henri Charrier Butterfly, because of the remarkable tattoo on his chest. In life, a man is engaged in opening safes. Nothing thickens the clouds over his fate, he has a beloved girl, money, happiness. But Henri was unjustly accused of murder and sentenced to life imprisonment. After several unsuccessful attempts to escape, he was transferred to Devil's Island - a penal colony in French Guiana, from which no one has ever escaped, because the ocean is all around as far as the eye can see.
