The Dowager Duchess of Malfi dreams of marrying her lover, Antonio, but her scheming brothers, Ferdinand and Cardinal, are against such a union. Once their informant, Bosola, reports that the duchess has already secretly married and is carrying Antonio's child under her heart, the brothers embark on an advanced plan of revenge. The famous tragedy is known for its exciting plot twists, intense scenes and unique characters that appeared in the imagination of playwright John Webster. For Gemma Arterton, this role is a return to the Globe Theatre, where she made her professional debut in 2007 as Rosalind in Love's Futile Endeavours.
