Years passed after the First World War. A steamship takes a young man to a lonely island far from the civilized world somewhere in the Arctic Circle. Gruner was offered a whole year to observe the weather in this God-forsaken place almost alone. Gruner's only neighbor on the island is a strange, unfriendly lighthouse keeper. And the lighthouse itself does not look like a benevolent one... All around is a forest, rocks, a huge ocean, a small house, loneliness and silence. But at night the island comes alive.
