Quentin Coldwater and Julia Wicker's lives are turned upside down when they get a chance to interview at the secretive Brakebills University. To their surprise, they find that instead of the usual exam, they are offered a test of magical abilities. Young people begin to guess that wizards live next door to ordinary people in New York.
