Poland, 1939. The Second World War is outside the window. Jan and Antonina Zabinski were the owners of the large Warsaw Zoo, but the war changed everything. Now they hide Jews in cages from the Nazis. Moreover, several people live even in the house of the spouses. Jan is also a member of the Polish anti-occupation underground. In order not to betray themselves, the Zabinskis continue to take care of the rest of the zoo's animals.
