Manet: Portraying Life HD
The premiere of the film took place on April 11, 2013. The exhibition "Manet: Life on Canvas" at the Royal Academy of Arts in London became the first ever exhibition dedicated exclusively to the portraits of Edouard Manet's brush. Works collected especially for this exhibition from almost all continents of the world cover the entire period of creativity of the mysterious and sometimes controversial painter. Although portraits make up about half of Manet's creative legacy, they have never been dedicated to a separate exhibition. Manet painted members of his family and friends, as well as prominent people of his time, from writers and fellow artists to political figures, capturing not just people, but an entire section of Parisian society. About 50 portraits were presented at the exhibition, including portraits of his permanent model, the couple Suzanne Lehenhoff, and celebrities of that time - Antonin Proust, Emile Zola, Stephane Mallarmé. In all the works of the artist presented at the exposition, one can trace an innovative and ahead-of-its-time approach to painting portraits. In the film "Manet: Life on Canvas" you can also see behind-the-scenes footage, usually not available to the general public - about how the preparation of the exhibition went. The host of the program, artist, writer and art historian, Tim Marlowe will not only discuss the artist's works with invited guests and experts, but will also offer the audience an interesting excursion into the biography of Manet and the history of Paris in the 19th century as a whole.
