The Devil's Candy

2015 18+ USA
6.3 90 min. Shon Birn

The artist Jesse and his family move into a dream house in a village in Texas, where a murder once took place: the son heard a demonic voice that made him kill his father and mother. After moving, the artist also begins to hear this voice and under its influence paints disturbing pictures. Suddenly, a mentally ill stranger appears at the door of the house and wants to return to his house. The film was officially presented on September 13, 2015 at the International Film Festival in Toronto, Canada. For director and screenwriter Sean Byrne, this is the second full-length work. The first was the film "The beloved ones". This is an Australian film, which means there is more blood and violence compared to the American "Deathly Hallows" ("The Devil's Candy"). Together with Sean Byrne, Australian cinematographer Simon Chapman and editor Andy Kenny moved from the film "Favorites". The first viewers from the festival in Toronto notice that the violence in the film is left off-screen, and all the murders are veiled, which slightly worsens the atmosphere of horror. They also praise the work of cinematographer Simon Chapman. The Australian was able to please with interesting shooting angles, such as in the scene in the toilet.
