Jenna works in the slum of one of the provincial towns in the southern United States. When she finds out that she is pregnant, she decides to radically change her life. She is no longer going to continue her relationship with her infantile husband, Earl. Cherry believes that all her hopes for a better life are not destined to come true, but then a handsome doctor appears in the town. Read more But what should a person do to make his dreams come true? - That's the problem. Because, let's say, the dreams of the main character - and these are not only dreams of winning in a big culinary competition - they are inhibited, crossed out by banal reality, they seem so unattainable! What is so familiar to most of us... However, Jenna, overcoming despair, shows her character and makes her dreams come true. And this applies not only to the art of baking pies, but above all to the formation of a complete personality that learns to approach life in a different way, realizing that, in fact, it is not as dark as it seemed. Based on the advertising slogan of the film "Waitress" - "If life were as simple as a pie", it is worth emphasizing that pies in Adrienne Shelley's picture appear more like a symbol. This is by no means a culinary film. This is a movie about people - with their problems, mistakes, complexes, but also victories and joys. At the level of the script and dramaturgy, it seems that we have a rather formulaic story, a kind of women's film about the search for female happiness, an ordinary melodramatic plot with corresponding two-dimensional, sometimes even caricature characters, whose logic of actions is not always easy to understand and justify. But the question is how they, these characters, are humanized, how they are depicted, brought out on the screen - with what tenderness and love! Which cannot leave any viewer of this film cold and indifferent. Adrienne Shelley's tape is imbued with light irony, just as light and unobtrusive humor. And what is important, the jokes in the film are not self-important, they are not, so to speak, inserted attraction numbers - they grow directly from this or that situation, and therefore are completely vitally organic. It's as if the film itself is smiling at us... Also in the program, which presents the film with the telling name "Waitress", a special plot will analyze the image of the waitress, which was created by various directors and actresses in the history of American cinema. Another slogan from the authors of the tape "Waitress" - "Love does not take orders"! So this is a movie about love. And also - about the human ability to make important life decisions at the right moment. Optimistic comedy drama. A positive and bright film.
