Decay is the first feature film about the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, shot during "glasnost" and "perestroika". On the eve of the Chernobyl accident, journalist Oleksandr Zhuravlyov returns home to his family in his native Kyiv. However, the very next day, the course of everyday events changes forever. The scale and details of the accident are carefully kept under wraps. However, Alexander does not give up and tries to reveal this secret. The image of Zhuravlev is undoubtedly a symptom of the historical late-Soviet discourse of the time, focused on the search for truth. The metaphor of the film is quite transparent - not so much ecological as political. Chernobyl became a symbol of the ineffectiveness of the Soviet socialist government and launched social and political transformations in the region.
