Documentary feature film "Golden September. Chronicle of Galicia 1939—1941" tells about the events in Western Ukraine before the beginning of the Second World War, the arrival of Soviet power, changes in borders and the disappearance of entire states from the world map. The tape was created on the basis of archival documents, materials and memories of witnesses, representatives of the Ukrainian, Polish and Jewish peoples of pre-war Galicia, who until the 40s of the 20th century constituted the main ethnic composition of this region. The film uses newsreels and comments by leading scientists and historians. The film was directed by Taras Khymych and produced by Taras Cholii. Galina Dalyavska, Yuri Khvostenko, Lev Rega, Volodymyr Pravosudov and Natalya Lisova starred in the main roles, Victor Gurnyak starred in the episodes. The film was released by the "Invert pictures" studio on the order of the "Western Ukrainian Historical Research Center". Read more The idea to shoot the film appeared on September 17, a year before its premiere, because on September 17, 1939, the Soviet army entered Western Ukraine, and the occupation began. It was the historical fact that prompted the creators of the film to think that a film should be made about this event. Another reason to shoot the film: "These are people who are still alive today and were eyewitnesses to those events," said Taras Choliy, the film's producer. The film differs from the usual examples of Ukrainian documentaries thanks to the "Discovery" format, which involves the use of modern angles and technical means during filming, making the film close to an artistic one. Most of the plots are played by professional actors. The film was commissioned by the non-governmental organization "Western Ukrainian Historical Research Center". The tape was created by professional musicians — Andriana, the band "Picardiyska Tertsia". Filming was carried out in different conditions — in cold, warm, the actors suffered, especially during the shooting of the episode "interrogation in prison", - noted the director of the film, Taras Khymych, during the briefing.
