A moving drama from director Matt Ross, who won the Cannes Film Festival's Special Look prize. Ben and Leslie Cash live with their children in a cabin in the mountains of Washington state. Parents raised their six beautiful children in the spirit of love for nature, the importance of survival in wild conditions, and many other things, based on their own ideals. But in the modern world it is impossible to live far from civilization without harming oneself. Leslie is hospitalized and soon dies. Ben goes to the funeral with his children, although his father-in-law threatens to arrest him if he comes. Viggo Mortensen ("Hidalgo", "Captain Alatriste", "The Road") was chosen for the role of the idealistic father. Monica Levinson ("Trumbo"), Lynette Howell ("The Place Under the Pines"), Declan Baldwin ("Still Alice") and others acted as producers of the film "Captain Fantastic". Director Matt Ross admitted in an interview that he was inspired by his own experience of fatherhood when creating the script. Later, George McKay, Annalisa Basso, Nicholas Hamilton, Kathryn Hahn, Steve Zahn, Missy Pyle, Frank Langella, Samantha Isler, Trin Miller and others joined the cast of Captain Fantastic. During filming in San Francisco, Matt Ross discovered that some children began to call Viggo Mortensen "summer dad". The premiere of the drama "Captain Fantastic" took place at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2016. In addition, the film was shown at the Cannes Film Festival and brought director Matt Ross the Special Look prize. Filming began in July 2014.
