In the small coastal town of Beaufort lives Travis Shaw, a veterinarian. A young attractive girl - Gabby Holland, a medical student - enters the house next door. Attraction immediately appears between the couple. However, Gabby is already dating a colleague, Dr. Ryan McCarthy. While he is abroad, the neighbors begin a romantic relationship. After returning, Ryan tries to reconnect with the girl. Gabby must decide who she values more. After doubts, Holland chooses Travis, with whom she begins a beautiful family life. Soon, Ross Katz took the director's chair, and the writer became one of the film's producers. In one day, Benjamin Walker and Teresa Palmer were cast as Travis and Gabby. A little later, Tom Wilkinson, Alexandra Daddario, Tom Welling and Maggie Grace joined the cast. The character of Dr. Ryan McCarthy could be played by Welling, and Scott Eastwood, the son of Clint Eastwood. As a result, he was involved in another film based on Sparks' novel - "The Long Road". Maggie Grace and Tom Welling already met on the set of Rupert Wainwright's "The Fog". The director of the film, Ross Katz, did not shoot much before "The Choice": the television military drama "Volunteers" with Kevin Bacon and the drama "Rookie Adults" with Rose Byrne. For Nicholas Sparks, "The Choice" is the eleventh book to be adapted into a screen. He also wrote the scripts for "Message in a Bottle" with Kevin Costner, "Memory Diary" by Nick Cassavetes, "The Lucky One" with Zac Efron, etc. Filming of "The Choice" began in October 2014 in Wilmington, North Carolina, and continued until November.
