Life
From the director of the crime drama "The American" and the spy thriller "Super Dangerous" Anton Corbin, as well as the producers of the Oscar-winning film "The King Speaks" - a biographical drama about the friendship of one of the iconic American actors James Dean and the photographer of the magazine "Life" Dennis Stock. The latter received the task of taking pictures of the then rising star of Hollywood shortly before the release of the film "East of Paradise". And although at first James Dean avoided Dennis Stock at all costs, they became friends during the actor's journey from Los Angeles to New York and then back home to Indiana. Read more Luke Davies started working on the script for "Life" back in 2010. He was going to focus only on James Dean, but during his biography research, he came across photos taken by Dennis Stock that stood out from the crowd. Davies found information about Stock and soon finished the script. At the initial stage, Anton Corbyn refused to make a biopic about Dean, but the story of the photographer attracted his attention. Corbyn himself was a photographer who often worked with famous music groups and artists. The role of James Dean went to Dane DeHaan, and Dennis Stock - to Robert Pattinson. Joel Edgerton, Ben Kingsley, Jason Bleeker and others also starred in the film "Life". DeHaan said in an interview that Dean had a specific voice, much higher than his. But the actor successfully completed the task, admitting that the harder the work, the greater the pleasure. The director gave Pattinson an old Leica camera, the same as Stock's, to shoot with and get used to. In the picture, the actor actually takes pictures. Anton Corbain wanted to make the film in black and white, echoing the aesthetics of Dennis Stock's photographs. But due to financial reasons, this idea had to be abandoned. Filming of "Life" started in February 2014 in Canada and ended in March.
