Read more The romantic drama Carol is based on Patricia Highsmith's groundbreaking 1953 semi-autobiographical novel The Price of Salt. The project was under development for about 11 years. Originally, John Crowley was supposed to direct the picture, but he was replaced by Todd Haynes. There are very interesting films in his filmography: the musical drama "Velvet vein" with Ewan McGregor, the Oscar nominee "Far from Paradise" with Julianne Moore, and the unusual biopic about Bob Dylan "I'm not there." In 2012, Mia Wasikowska was considered for the role of Teresa. Due to conflicts in the shooting schedules, she was forced to leave the project. Thus, the cast of "Carol" was joined by Rooney Mara, known to the audience for such films as: "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" by David Fincher, "She" by Spike Jones, "Trash", "Pen: Journey to Nebula" by Joe Wright. For Cate Blanchett, who played Carol, this is the second adaptation of Patricia Highsmith's work. The first was Anthony Minghella's thriller "The Talented Mr. Ripley" with Matt Damon, Jude Law and Gwyneth Paltrow. Before "Carol", the actress collaborated with Todd Haynes in the film "I'm not there". Filming began in March 2014 in Ohio and lasted 34 days.
