Free State of Jones

The events of the film take place during the American Civil War. After participating in the Battle of Corinth, Newton Knight - a poor farmer from Mississippi, leads a group of deserters from the Confederate army who advocate the abolition of slavery. Together, they settle in Jones County and begin a fight against Confederate forces. Subsequently, Knight marries a former slave - Rachel, creating a precedent in a region where mixed marriages had not occurred before.
