Adventure fantasy film from the director of "Indiana Jones", "Jurassic Park" and "Catch If You Can" Steven Spielberg, based on the novel by Roald Dahl. The great and kind giant is not like other inhabitants of the Land of Giants. He has big ears and a keen sense of smell. And although the giant is not very smart, he is charming. Other inhabitants are twice as big and scarier than him, and also eat people. The great and good giant became an outcast for them, because of his good heart and refusal to eat girls and boys. Little Sophie meets the giant, and although at first his appearance fills her with fear, they become best friends. But the girl's presence in the Land of Giants attracts its scary and evil inhabitants. Read more Producers Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall became interested in adapting the book "The Big Friendly Giant" back in 1991. They involved Paramount Pictures in the project. Nicholas Kazan and Robin Sword wrote the screenplay in 1998 with Robin Williams in mind as the giant's lead. In 2011, DreamWorks announced that they had bought the rights to film the novel. The script was written by Melissa Matheson ("Alien"). Initially, John Madden was to become the director, but in April 2014 it became known that Steven Spielberg would take up the filming. Madden stayed on as one of the producers. In 2015, Walt Disney Studios joined the project. The role of the giant was played by Oscar winner Mark Rylance ("Bridge of Spies"), and Sophie by Ruby Barnhill. Rebecca Hall, Bill Hader, Olavur Darry Olafsson, Jemaine Clement and others also starred in the film "The Big Friendly Giant". Filming of the picture started in March 2105 in Vancouver, and ended in June. The premiere of the film took place in the out-of-competition program of the Cannes Film Festival in May 2016. "The Big Friendly Giant" became the second adaptation. There is also a 1989 animated TV movie.
