The "New British Cinema" festival is a series of premiere screenings, press conferences and special projects dedicated to the best new films from Great Britain. The festival starts on November 26 in Kyiv. This year, the showcase of the best British films is taking place for the 15th time. 5 full-length films and a selection of BAFTA short films await the audience. The festival opens with Sarah Gavron's film "Suffragette", where Carey Mulligan, Meryl Streep and Helena Bonham Carter will fight for women's suffrage. The Jury Prize of the Cannes Film Festival, Yorgos Lanthimos' dystopia "The Lobster" tells about a near future in which people are forbidden to be alone. 45 Years, directed by Andrew Hay, is a melodrama about a couple about to celebrate their 45th wedding anniversary, when news from the past threatens their relationship. "Igniting the Stars" is a biographical film about the Welsh poet, playwright and writer Dylan Thomas, starring Elijah Wood and Celine Jones. The comedy genre in the program is represented by "The Lady in the Van", the story of an elderly lady who once parked her van under the writer's windows and lived there for 15 years. Also, "New British Cinema" presents to the audience a selection of the best short films according to the British Film Academy (BAFTA). The organizers of the festival are the British Council in Ukraine and the Arthouse Trafik company.
