The film tells about the fate of one of the most controversial figures in the history of Ukraine, about a person who changed the course of history and made his country independent. This film is about the great Hetman of Ukraine, whose name is Bohdan Zinovii Khmelnytskyi. The story begins in 1647, and shows the period of the uprising of the Ukrainian Cossacks against the Polish nobility. But the main line of the plot is not the uprising itself, but the tragic love of Bohdan Khmelnytskyi for the young Polish woman Helena.
