For more than a hundred years there has been a legend about how to summon an ominous ghost. It is necessary to draw a door and a ladder leading to it in a dark room on a mirror. After repeating the phrase "Queen of Spades, come" three times, a ghostly entity appears. It is believed that the ghost cuts the hair of the sleepers and is able to drive mad or kill the one who summoned it. Four teenagers conduct a ritual to summon the Queen of Spades, not fully believing that it will lead to anything. But after some time one of them dies under incomprehensible circumstances. The father of one of the children does not believe the stories, but when the second member of the group dies, he realizes that it is all too real. Read more Svyatoslav Podgaevsky, the director of "Lady of Spades", used a horror story known to many from childhood. In an interview, he told that when he was 12 years old, he heard scary stories about those who tried to summon a gloomy ghost. And although he was afraid, he, like the others, only laughed, but did not dare to call himself. Podgaevsky went over what he knew about the legend, held conversations with teenagers and wrote a script. Preparation for filming took two months and lasted until the end of February. Producers and the director himself did not want to shoot in pavilions, insisting that real interiors would give reality, which is important for creating horror. Natural lighting was used in some scenes rather than film lighting. The film "Queen of Spades: The Black Rite" is a classic horror film, without additional storylines. The Russian artist Anton Semenov participated in the creation of the image of the ominous woman. The role of one of the children went to Serhii Pokhodaev, who played the son of Oleksiy Serebryakov in Zvyagintsev's Leviathan. For Sviatoslav Podgaevskiy, this is the second full-length film, after "Possession 18" in 2013. He shot four short films: "Journey", "Near People", "Inhuman" and "Crisis Syndrome".
