Emmanuelle Berko, the director of "Young Blood", took inspiration and ideas from the experience of her uncle, who was the head of a rehabilitation center for young people in trouble with the law. For her, this is the second film with which she opens the famous festival. Initially, the role of the judge was to be played by Gerard Depardieu, but as a result, it went to Catherine Deneuve. For the diva of French cinema, this is the second collaboration with actor Benoit Magimel. Previously, they played together in Andre Teshina's film "Thieves". Deneuve also starred in Berko in the 2013 film "After Cigarettes". For Rod Parado, who played Maloney, this film is the debut. Benoit Magimel was hesitant to accept the role, but after seeing how Parado played, he changed his mind. Real teachers also play in the film. It was not a random choice of Emmanuel Berko. Screenwriter Marcia Romano and the director of "Young Blood" are old friends. Almost 10 years ago, they worked together on the picture "Vacations". This time, to write the script for the film, Romano completed an internship at a juvenile court in Paris. She attended many hearings, both criminal and educational, which helped a lot in her work. Marcia Romano also accompanied teachers in specialized centers for young people. The film was originally supposed to be called "Double Sentence".
