A cryptanalyst was hired by a top-secret British organization for a specific purpose - to help decipher the code of a German cipher machine. It was the forties of the last century, the period of the most difficult days of the Second World War. To break the Enigma code, Turing and his friends did the impossible. In addition to this episode, his not so easy youth is shown, as well as the post-war period, when he was suspected of espionage and accused of homosexuality. When it became known that the scientist had homosexual relations, which was illegal in those years, the British government silenced the fame of this man. For Tyldum, the drama "The Imitation Game" was his debut in the English-language cinema. One of the main candidates for the main role in the film was none other than Leonardo DiCaprio. The story itself was ready to move from paper to the screen back in 2011, but the script topped the "Black List" of stories. However, even then they started talking about a biopic about Alan Turing. David Yates and Ron Howard, known for his films based on real events, were among the options to direct The Imitation Game. The fact that the Norwegian, the author of "Bounty Hunters" will be involved in the production, was announced by the mass media in December 2012. Filming began in September 2013 and lasted until November of the same year. The work was carried out on the territory of England. Benedict Cumberbatch was so absorbed by his character, his life, that after the filming of the final scenes, he could not hold back tears.
