Apatosaurus named Arlo is clumsy and timid, but has a big kind heart. He makes an unusual friend - a human child named Spot. The boy is wild, but very smart. And although this strange couple does not immediately become friends, they help each other. While traveling through harsh and mysterious places, Arlo learns to face his fears and discovers what he is really capable of. The project faced creative disagreements, reworking of the script, overload of the Pixar studio with film projects and a decline in quality from "Cars 2" to "Monsters University". Director Bob Peterson was suspended from work in the summer of 2013, literally a year before the first release date of the cartoon - May 2014. And in the fall of 2013, Pixar closed one of its studios in Canada, which was accompanied by layoffs and financial losses. In October 2014, "The Good Dinosaur" finally found its director - Peter Sohn, the author of the short film "Moving Clouds" and the actor whose voice voiced many characters of famous cartoons. The script was reworked, and major changes were made to the characters. To create a visualization of nature, the film crew used data on relief, terrain and land elevation from the US Geological Survey. Famous actors such as Jeffrey Wright ("Casino Royale", "Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close"), Frances McDormand ("Almost Famous", "Fargo"), Steve Zahn ("Dallas Buyers Club", "Bandits") and others took part in voicing the characters of "The Good Dinosaur".
