Many climbers dream of climbing the highest mountain in the world. Not everyone tries to put it into practice, and not everyone, unfortunately, returns from this dangerous journey. On Everest, a person has to face severe blizzards that have no equal on earth, and these are not all obstacles that can end in death. Rob Hall is one of those who would like to write his name among the conquerors of the summit of the highest mountain in the world. He gathers a group of climbers, which begins the ascent. But how soon can a dream turn into a fierce battle for life? More Balthazar Kormákur's film "Everest" is based on several books about the real tragedy on Jomolungma in May 1996. Among them, the work of mountaineer, writer and journalist John Krakauer "In thin air" and interviews with survivors were used. Such were Lou Kasishke and Guy Cotter, who acted as consultants on the set. Rob Hall, played by Jason Clarke, was the first person to climb Mount Everest five times. And his wife Jen (Keira Knightley) is the second woman from New Zealand who conquered the impregnable peak. Originally, the role of Hall was supposed to be performed by Christian Bale, but the actor decided to leave the project due to participation in Ridley Scott's film "Exodus: Gods and Kings". As a result, he was replaced for the second time by Jason Clarke, after "Terminator: Genesis" by Alan Taylor. Balthazar Kormakur shot the picture "Everest" at the foot of the real mountain, as well as some scenes in the Italian Alps, namely in the Trentino-Alto Adige region. For the director, this is not the first film about human survival in a cruel nature. In 2012, his picture "The Abyss" was released, which tells the real story of the survival of fishermen near the southern coast of Iceland. In order to adapt well to their characters, the actors had to undergo rigorous training to get used to the effects of high altitude on the body. The film consultants were responsible for the training. Such well-known actors as Jake Gyllenhaal, Robin Wright, Josh Brolin, Emily Watson and others also took part in the filming of "Everest".
