A bad marriage brings Agnès Le Roux home from Africa to France, to her mother. Upon arrival, the girl unexpectedly falls in love with Maurice Agnel. He is a young and successful lawyer who was hired by the heroine's mother to handle the legal side of her business. Rene Le Roux keeps a casino, part of which belongs to his daughter and which becomes a stumbling block in the conflict with the mafia. Maurice Agnele agrees to a deal with the bandits and uses an innocent girl who falls in love with him. For this he should receive a considerable amount of money. The situation escalates and leads to a tragic outcome. Read more For Andre Teshina, showing this film at Cannes, and that's exactly what happened, is not the first experience. Previously, he already received several nominations and even one prize for the film "Date" (1985). In addition, "The Man Who Was Loved Too Much" became the seventh joint film for Teshina and Catherine Deneuve. The plot of the film is based on the memoirs of Rene Le Roux herself, in which she talked about her confrontation with the mafia. This case is still heard, although the events unfolded back in the seventies. Jean-Maurice Agnele, who was accused more than once, was imprisoned a few years after the beginning of the conflict. In the original French, "The Man Who Was Loved Too Much" is called "In the Name of My Daughter". Simply in the director's native language, "In the Name of My Daughter" is consonant with Alfred Hitchcock's film "The Man Who Knew Too Much" (1955). Other draft titles for the film included "French Riviera" and "Shadow of a Doubt". Filming began in May 2013. Work on the drama took place in Menton, Old Nice, four weeks in Paris and some other places. It is interesting that part of the money was collected through crowdfunding to launch this project.
