Une nouvelle amie
Une nouvelle amie
A new film by an honored French director who is not afraid to talk about taboos. David has just recently lost his wife and needs support. Claire, the best friend of the deceased, who is currently going through bad times due to bouts of depression, can help with this. To dilute the shared longing, the man reveals a secret to the girl, in which he offers to participate together. Such a turn of events makes a strong impression on Claire - she is unable to resist, but at the same time condemns David, calling him a pervert. A man, seeing that his wife has come out of depression, and a friend frequented their house, suspects something bad. Read More Although the film is supposedly based on a script by François Ozon, the story was actually written by Ruth Rendell. It was based on his literary work of the same name that the movie "New Girlfriend" was made. The novel was published in 1985 and is originally called "Une amie qui vous veut du bien". Ruth Rendell received the Edgar Allan Poe Award for it. The director wanted to transfer the book to the screen for a long time, but either he did not have money or he could not find suitable actors. At that stage, the adaptation was to be called "I am a woman". In addition, it is worth saying that François Ozon created a free interpretation. He drew inspiration from an unusual story told by his friend, who made a documentary about transvestites. The first candidate for the role of David was the Belgian Matthias Schoenaerts, but he refused. So his role went to a native of Paris, Romain Duris. If this drama was the first joint work for Ozon and Duris, then for Raphael Personas and Anais Demoustier, "New Girlfriend" was the third project where they worked together. The premiere of the film fell on September 2014, when it was shown at the Toronto Film Festival. In addition, the tape was broadcast at several other similar festivals, in particular at San Sebastian, where Francois Ozon's piece won a prize.
