On November 13, the 14th New British Cinema festival will begin in Ukraine. By tradition, the British Council in Ukraine and the Arthouse Traffic company will present an annual selection of fresh British cinema. This year, the program of New British Cinema addresses art in all its manifestations. As part of the festival, Ukrainian viewers will see the last film of the patriarch of British cinema, Mike Lee - "William Turner", a large-scale canvas about the life and work of an outstanding painter. The film was a triumph at the Cannes Film Festival - actor Timothy Spall was awarded the Golden Branch for the best male role. Also, New British Cinema introduces the audience to music. Leonard Abrahamson's eccentric comedy "Frank" tells the story of a fictional indie band. The music performed in the film was recorded by the actors live during filming. The role in the film became the most unusual in the career of Hollywood sex symbol Michael Fassbender - his character, Frank, spends the entire film in a papier-mâché head mask. The legendary "Jimi Hendrix" will add chords. The biographical drama tells about the acquaintance of the guitarist with Linda Keith, the girlfriend of Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones, who gives the musician a cherished chance to get on the big stage. "Maliotka" is an aggressive crime drama about daily life in prison from David McKenzie, the author of the films "The Last Love on Earth" and "Grandma". Jack O'Connell, the new star of the British cinema, who managed to make a name for himself in the Hollywood films "Unbroken" and "300 Spartans" is in the lead role. Among the famous directors in the program there is also a promising newcomer. Paul Wright's first feature film "For Those at Sea" was nominated for the Cannes Film Festival's "Camera d'Or" for best debut. The chamber drama "Rhythmically Humming" is devoted to the difficulties of translation. The international cast, led by the British Ben Whishaw, will teach a lesson in mutual support and tell how to cope with loss in the family. Traditionally, the festival program presents a collection of short films nominated for the British Film Academy Award (BAFTA-2014) - the collection "Britain. Briefly". As part of the festival for adult moviegoers, there will be a screening of Mark Cousins' film "About Cinema and About Children", in which the director collected 53 fragments with the participation of children from the world classics of cinema.
