However, when the director Abel Ferrera began to promote the idea of a screenplay based on this event, he did not receive support and funding from French TV channels. It became known that "Welcome to New York" was being filmed in 2012, when an excerpt was accidentally leaked online. In May 2013 it happened again, due to the operator not wanting to show any footage to the general public, which it did. The finished film was included in the out-of-competition program of the international Cannes Film Festival in 2014. During the casting, the role played by Jacqueline Bisset could have been played by Isabel Adjani. After the premiere screenings in France, the tape "Welcome to New York" immediately went on sale through the sale of the film via the Internet. In this way, the creators wanted to avoid pirated versions of the film, or rather defeat them with ready-made access to the film in good quality, albeit for little money.
