The source for the plot of the book, and now the film, was the real events that took place in 2001. The work on the film was carried out mainly on the territory of Germany, and more specifically in the city of Hamburg. Filming took place in September 2012. Stephen Cornwell, who is the son of John le Carre, acted as one of the leading producers of "Super Dangerous". During the shooting of the film, the writer himself visited the site more than once, directing the process, however, without interfering with the adaptation very much. Carey Mulligan, Amy Adams and Jessica Chastain applied for the main female role. Released in a limited release in the US, the film earned the attention of a thoughtful viewer. Leading critics noted the strong bar of a quality thriller, which is what the author of the original book, John le Carré, is famous for. The film's leading actor, Philip Seymour Hoffman, barely lived to see the official screenings of his last major role. The film also entered film festivals, including Sundance and the International Moscow Film Festival.
