For the director William Brent Bell, this horror film was the fourth in his production of films in the genre of mysticism and horror. In the film, the word werewolf is mentioned only twice. It was announced at the beginning of 2012 that "Werewolf" was being filmed. As of January 2013, it was already known that the team had been working on the film for several months, although it was pre-production and finalization of various technical points. In addition, the script was being refined, in which the director was assisted by Matthew Peterman, who also acted as one of the producers. At the same time, it was known that "Perverten" will be shot in a pseudo-documentary style. What is meant is that the horror movie was shot "out of hand". From the very beginning, Brent Bell and the producers planned the production of the film in Romania. The group also worked there, choosing the city of Bucharest as a venue, and already in May 2012, the first shots were taken. Alejandro Martinez was invited as a cameraman, with whom the director had previously worked on the film "Stay Alive" in 2005-2006.
