The project was idle for a long time, until in October 2011, the rights holders began to take decisive steps towards the launch. A year later, the script was ready and the information that Bobby and Peter Farrelly would be the directors again was confirmed. Jimmy Carrey wasn't sure if he was ready to appear in Dumb and Dumber 2 because he saw that Warner Bros. wasn't particularly interested in producing a sequel. He changed his decision when the producers of the company Red Granite Pictures, who at that time already had a couple of interesting projects, got involved.
