The film version by maestro Roman Polanski, based on the famous theatrical production. Every theater director knows that one of the most important details in creating a play is the actors who play the main roles. How many actresses have auditioned for Toma, but none of them satisfied the vision of the image that the director had. The last to come to the casting was Wanda, an active, sharp and restless woman. At first glance, she seemed to Tom to be absolutely not the type of heroine he needed, she was already too direct and independent. Gradually, watching her transformation and entering into the image that the actress has chosen for herself, the man realizes that this is exactly what he was waiting for, but will everything end with just the role? Read more Filmed entirely in French, Roman Polanski's new film has indeed undergone a transformation from a play to a motion picture. The author of the theatrical version is David Ives, and it, in turn, was written on the basis of the novel by the Austrian Leopold von Sacher-Masoch, who, by the way, was born in Lviv. After the successful reception by the audience of the theatrical film "Massacre", Polanski made another such film. However, this time there were only ... Two actors. Actually, they became the famous Mathieu Almaric and the wife of the director Emmanuel Seigneur, whom Roman has shot in his film not for the first time. Like "Massacre", the film "Venus in Fur" became a candidate for the main prize of the 66th International Cannes Film Festival. And being practically a sample of camera cinema, the picture "Venus in Fur" was shot with one single camera. The role of Tom was initially supposed to be played by Louis Garrel, who many know for his role in "Dreamers" by B. Bertolucci, but as a result he refused in favor of another project, believing that he would not be able to cope with the role, as Roman Polanski wants it. Before "Venus in Fur", Emmanuelle Senier did not act with Polanski for about 14 years, their last joint film was "The Ninth Gate".
