Read more Like many films from the category of "paranormal activity", the plot of "The Spell" is based on real events. The main characters of the film, which takes place in the 70s, Ed and Lorraine Warren are famous researchers of paranormal phenomena, whose popularity was brought by another case of theirs, based on which the films "Amityville Horror" were filmed. Based on all the horrors that happened on the screen, unlike some other films of this genre "shelf", the Motion Picture Association of America awarded the film an R rating, and not PG 13, as it happens with some horror films. The screenwriters were not newcomers to this genre, namely brothers Chad and Carey Hayes, who worked on the script for the remake of the cult horror "House of Wax Figures". For director James Wan, "The Spell" became another film to the pedestal of his popularity. He has already managed to make a name for himself with the films "Saw", "Astral" and "Death Sentence", each of which gave him the opportunity to work with new famous actors. This time, the first stars were Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson, who played the family couple Warren. The test premiere of the tape took place in 2012, as part of Comic-Con in New York and was warmly received by the audience. CGI technology and at the same time a return to ordinary make-up made "The Spell" a kind of salute to the past of cinema, the 70s of which were famous for skillfully shot horror films.
