Read more This project waited 14 years from the moment the idea appeared and was released only in 2015. The main problem in finding people to invest in the creation of the "Book of Life" was the low popularity of animated films in Spain. Of course, they were and are, but they are not produced in such a quantity as game art projects. As a result, the producers were found in America, but among them was the director with Spanish roots, Guillermo Del Toro. He also announced in 2012 that he would finance this feature film. Before that, in 2007, the DreamWorks Animation studio could take on the development of the project, but due to disagreements, filming was postponed. In 2011, even before the official and confident statement about the future film, the script was rewritten. The name was also changed more than once. The first versions sounded like "Matador", "Death Day". Many of the jokes and stories that were featured in the cartoon were passed down in director Jorge R. Gutierrez's family from generation to generation. And the very plot of "The Book of Life" can be compared with the tragedy of Orpheus and Eurydice. In the Spanish version, the name of the tape sounds like "Katrina". This name is a direct reference to the character who is a symbol of the Day of the Dead celebration.
