1984

The film is based on George Orwell's novel 1984. Outer Party member Winston Smith tries to confront the Party itself, an extremely brutal totalitarian regime. He and his beloved Julia hope that the Resistance, a secret organization opposed to the regime, or the proles (proletariat), will manage to destroy the Party at least in the distant future. But their hopes are in vain. Resistance is a fiction of the government, the proles will never rise in rebellion, and the Party breaks any dissident, turning it into one just like them.
