Antonio Richie, an unemployed father of two, after a long search, finally finds a job as a poster sticker. In order to start his duties, he needs a bicycle. "No bicycle - no work," the labor exchange official tells him. Antonio had a bicycle, but he pawned it to get some money and buy food. To buy a bicycle from a pawnshop, Antonio's wife pawns the last thing worth anything - six sheets that were her dowry. On the first day of work, while Antonio is painstakingly pasting a poster with the image of Rita Hayworth, the bicycle is stolen. Antonio and his young son Bruno go on a hopeless search.
