The events of the film take place in 1937-1947. In the center of the story is a poor family with many children. The sons of Les Zvonary diverged: the eldest goes to the Red Army, the middle one goes to the forest, to the UPA, the youngest one stays away. But they will meet more than once and their destinies will cross more than once - both in love and in the mountains with weapons in their hands.
