In the new film from the famous writer and director Jim Jarmusch, Bill Murray plays the main role of Don Johnston. A staunch bachelor, Don has just been dumped by his latest lover Sherry (Julie Delpy). Don is left to himself again and enjoys solitude. But after receiving a mysterious pink letter in the mail, he is forced to think about his past. The unsigned letter was sent by one of his ex-lovers and says he has a 19-year-old son who may be looking for his father. Don's neighbor Winston (Jeffrey Wright) - an amateur detective and a family man - persuades him to investigate this "mystery". Don does not want to leave the place, but nevertheless he goes on a trip across the country in search of answers and four of his ex-girlfriends (Frances Conroy, Jessica Lange, Sharon Stone and Tilda Swinton). Unexpected visits to each of these unique women bring new surprises to Don, who by chance comes face to face with his past and his present.
