Dancer in the dark

Washington State, mid-60s. Czech emigrant Selma (Bjork) works at a kitchen equipment factory and loves old musicals more than anything in the world. They allow her to forget that she is going blind. And that it is hereditary. And her 12-year-old son is next in line. Selma's sole purpose in life is to collect money for his surgery. When she shares it with her neighbor, hapless cop Bill (Morse), he takes advantage of her blindness and steals all her savings.
