Not far from the harbor of the damp and fog-shrouded City of Lost Children, in a castle by the sea lives a terrible scientist named Crank, who has aged prematurely due to a complete inability to sleep. On Krank's orders, his cyclops minions kidnap the children and drag them into a gloomy laboratory, where the villainous scientist transforms their dreams into his own. But because the children are terribly afraid of him, he only sees their nightmares. Circus strongman Odin comes to the City in search of his missing younger brother. He is helped by a brave nine-year-old girl, Miette, and her brigade of little resistance fighters...
